The deck system typically consists of three parts: transverse distribution beams, longitudinal distribution beams (or stiffeners), and the deck slab, which transfer loads sequentially from top to bottom.
Transverse Distribution Beams: Directly supported on the upper chords of the Bailey beams, these beams transfer the deck load to the main Bailey girders. Common materials include I-beams (e.g., I22b, I25b) or channel sections, with typical spacing ranging from 0.5 m to 1.0 m.
Longitudinal Distribution Beams/Stiffeners: Installed on top of the transverse distribution beams, they help distribute the load transferred from the deck slab and provide continuous support for the deck. These are usually made of small I-beams (e.g., I12.6) or hardwood battens, spaced closely together.
Deck Slab: The surface layer directly supporting vehicle traffic. Common materials include checkered steel plates (8–12 mm thick), precast reinforced concrete slabs, or hardwood planks.
