Bailey Bridge Site Engineering: Material And Equipment Preparation - Before The Troops Move, Provisions And Fodder Must Go First

This is the project's "arsenal". Any oversight can lead to project delays.

1. Component Tally, Inspection, and Pre-treatment:

Sorting and Stacking: Upon arrival at the site, components should be sorted and stacked by type (Bailey panels, transoms, decking panels, etc.) and specification. Identification tags should be attached to facilitate quick retrieval and improve assembly efficiency.

Damage Repair: Slightly deformed components should be straightened; components with severe corrosion should be derusted and re-coated with anti-corrosion paint (e.g., spray zinc-rich primer and topcoat).

Trial Assembly: Conduct trial assemblies for critical connection points, such as pins and pin holes, to ensure smooth engagement without jamming.

2. Equipment Mobilization and Inspection:

Lifting Equipment Selection: Precisely select the tonnage of mobile cranes or crawler cranes based on the weight of the heaviest component (e.g., the weight of a single span for integral hoisting), the working radius, and on-site ground conditions.

Equipment Safety Inspection: All equipment, especially lifting equipment, jacking equipment, wire ropes, etc., must have valid certificates and undergo safety checks before use.

Specialized Tool Preparation: Specialized tools such as long-handled wrenches, driving hammers (for driving pins), and the core tools for the launching method – "rock and roll bolsters" and "rolling bolsters" – must be fully prepared and in good condition.

3. Site Leveling and Layout:

Bearing Capacity Verification: The assembly area and equipment access roads must be compacted or hardened to ensure they can withstand the heavy loads from cranes and component storage, preventing equipment overturning.

Assembly Line Planning: The assembly area must be sufficiently long and flat, and its centerline must be perfectly aligned with the bridge launching direction. The positions for the rock and roll bolsters, rolling bolsters, and Bailey panel baseline must be precisely marked out.
