Assembly Of A Bailey Steel Bridge

Due to differences in the types of Bailey bridges (such as the 321 type, HD200 type, etc.) and erection methods (such as the cantilever launching method, floating method, hoisting method, etc.), the assembly procedures vary. The following takes the most classic cantilever launching method (i.e., assembling section by section on the bank and then launching it to the opposite bank without using large cranes) as an example to outline the general assembly steps and key points.

Phase 1: Preparation and Site Layout

Site Leveling:

Level the assembly site on both sides of the river to ensure the ground is firm and even.

Lay down rockers and rollers on the launching bank to serve as temporary support tracks for bridge assembly and sliding.

Equipment Positioning:

Prepare traction equipment (such as winches, pulley blocks), power systems, and various hand tools.

Inspect all components, including Bailey panels, pins, transoms, and sway braces, to ensure they are complete and in good condition.

Anchor Setting:

Set up ground anchors behind the launching bank to secure the traction wire ropes or guy lines, preventing the bridge from tipping over sideways during launching.
