Several critical stages directly determine the safety and service life of the bridge during actual construction:
Precise Assembly of Truss Units: Bailey panels are connected using pins, and it is essential to ensure all pins are properly installed and secured with safety cotter pins to prevent loosening. High precision is required- for example, the deviation in center-to-center spacing of main trusses must be controlled within 2.5 mm (for bottom-supported systems).
Secure Deck System and Connections: The deck plating and cross beams must be firmly connected to the Bailey trusses to form a unified load-bearing structure. Standard cross beams should be locked in place using clamps, while the deck plating must be fixed onto the Bailey beams with specialized connectors such as "ship-shaped clips." Additionally, lateral connecting plates should be installed between each group of Bailey beams to enhance overall bridge stability.
Safe Lowering and Positioning: Once the bridge has been pushed into its designated position on the opposite bank, jacks must be used in synchronized operation to gently lower the bridge onto the abutment bearings. Any impact during this process is strictly prohibited. After positioning, limiters (such as U-shaped clamps) must be installed to lock the lower chord members of the bridge to the cross beams, ensuring secure fixation.
